Experiments: Video minisite

magnifylogo.pngInspired by my previous post on video in WordPress, this post on TechCrunch made me wonder how much WordPress video coverage might be out there waiting to be gathered together.

Magnify.net should provide a quick and easy way to find out, try out, and publish the results all in one step.

The registration process was very quick, and asked for some keywords to pre-fill my ‘channel’ which is now available at http://wordpressguy.magnify.net. It did a reasonable job with the single keyword “WordPress”, and I’ll forgive the mistakes given most of them seem to have come from WordPress powered sources. Once the most obvious mistakes were sifted out I think the result is a reasonably interesting and useful source.

[ GUESS WHAT - THE WIDGET BROKE WP (or WP broke the widget) ]

The above widget (if it works) is more complex to implement than the vivadee wordpress videos covered earlier, but provide a very different function. You can embed these for any channel, not just ones you are admin for.

Currently a number of features are quite well hidden, so click around and see what you find, it’s much more feature rich than it first appears.

The site invites user involvement and peer review, allowing readers (or should I call them viewers) to contribute in a number of ways. I’ll keep an eye on any requests for authorisation to add new videos from anyone who may wish to contribute.

Wow, that looks pretty cool. Your widget is greyed out in case you didn’t know.

I’m going to look through the site– thanks for the find.
